Quilting Gone Coastal

Holly Rydman

Welcome to my little slice of quilting paradise—where the seams are straight(ish), the snacks are plentiful, and fabric hoarding is not just accepted… it’s encouraged.

I’m a proud mom (and now grandma), recovering animal hoarder, and lifelong craft addict who finally decided it was time to make my dream happen. After years of cheering from the sidelines and packing school lunches, I realized: it’s my turn. And folks, I’m diving headfirst into a world of colorful fabric, creative chaos, and a retreat space that feels like a warm hug—with better lighting.

It all started with a glue gun and a dream (okay, and some serious Laura Heine obsession). Collage quilting stole my heart, so naturally I became a certified advanced instructor. But don’t worry—I still have a thing for sleek modern quilts and those vintage beauties that practically purr when you pull them out of storage. Basically, if it involves fabric and a little drama, I’m into it.

Now let’s talk retreats. I’m talking real retreats—the kind where you don’t have to cook, clean, or pretend you’re not bringing five totes of fabric “just in case.” The kind where you stay up way too late laughing, get weirdly excited about ironing stations, and make forever friends over a shared love of half-square triangles and chocolate. Those are the moments that lit a fire in me to create a space just for us.

So here it is (at the beach no less): a retreat built from the heart, with room for 12 quilting queens to relax, recharge, and stitch their hearts out. You bring your projects and your sass—I’ll bring the space, the snacks, and maybe a shopping trip or a walk on the beach (or three).

Let’s make some magic, make some messes, and make some quilts. Welcome home.

I have been sewing for over 30 years and quilting for nearly just as long. My journey with quilting began in high school, thanks to my mom’s influence—and it quickly turned into a lifelong passion. One of my earliest projects was a hand-sewn wall hanging she made as part of a graduation assignment, and I haven't stopped stitching since.

Over the years, I have created countless quilts, with traditional styles being my favorite. I am also a certified QuiltSmart Instructor and previously owned a quilt shop from 2020 to 2024, where I enjoyed helping others discover the joy of quilting and fabric.

After closing my shop, I turned my attention to something I have always loved—hosting quilting retreats. These retreats offer a chance to step away from everyday responsibilities and spend time in a comfortable, creative space with other quilters. The retreat includes a cozy house for resting and a spacious sewing room designed for sewing, sharing, and connecting.

My goal is to create a welcoming, low-pressure environment where quilters of all levels can feel inspired and supported—whether you're finishing up a big project or just enjoying time with your fabric and friends.
